Artist Statement
In my paintings, I explore themes of memory, domesticity, and personal history, bringing them to life through boldly colorful landscapes, still life’s, and portraits, reflecting an idealized version of my childhood in an attempt to capture a time that felt gentler, more vibrant, and alive with color. By intertwining fond moments from my upbringing with the influences of who I am today, I reconstruct my past into perfect memories, blurring the line between nostalgia and reality.
Growing up immersed in nature, my surroundings became a source of comfort and inspiration, shaping the way I see and depict the world. This deep connection to the outdoors now serves as a recurring motif in my work, evoking feelings of warmth and familiarity. Using flattened perspectives, bold colors, and playful, childlike patterns, I aim to capture the emotional resonance of these simple, but joyful memories while celebrating the whimsy of the everyday. Universally my use of color plays a central role in my practice, the vibrancy of my palette drawing from the media I loved, the décor that surrounded me, and the lively essence of childhood itself. This process flows between two worlds—layering flat, bold shapes in a meditative rhythm and diving into the fine details of realism with careful precision.
